I am, however, a big fan of my Vibram five finger barefoot running shoes.
There is some controversy over the benefit of these shoes. In fact, Vibram is being sued for making false health claims associated with the shoes. My take is that we are all built differently and I have no doubt that the shoes do not work for everyone, in fact some people cannot even put them on their feet. For me, they have been a game changer in terms of my running. I have significantly increased my running practice and successfully completed three ½ marathons with a fourth coming up in the fall (right Karen Suchsland!). Other manufacturers put significant padding in heels of running shoes and claim that this is the answer, I think that is problematic. Like many other things, I guess we all have to sort through what works best for us.
Here’s my point, in addition to defending my favorite shoes (particularly to my brother in law who finds them an endless source of mockery), regardless of what’s on your feet, go outside every day. Walk, run, or do whatever other form of exercise makes your heart sing, and then take the time to breathe deep and smell all of the fabulous scents of spring and fully enjoy and envelop yourself in nature even if only for a few moments.
