Today is women’s day. I think every day should be women’s day. Probably every day should be men’s day too. Every day each of us should take a moment to hit pause and celebrate ourselves, the fabulous, wonderful human being that we are. Then, take that with you throughout the day and remember to treat your body as the house for that fabulous person – make healthy food choices, exercise, take care of the body that houses our awesomeness!
Pepper just told me that I’m wrong, every day is actually poodle day. I imagine he is right!
Today is Frozen Foods Day. There are a number of foods that stay nutrient rich when frozen – blueberries, spinach, other frozen vegetables and fruits. Celebrate Frozen Foods day by buying some great fruits and vegetables. Then comes the next trick, don’t let them gather frost in the freezer and throw them out in a couple of years – use them! Enjoy them. I use frozen blueberries in my smoothies, frozen vegetables in my stews. They are great for those times that I want to make dinner and just don’t have the fresh produce I need and am too tired, lazy or cold to go out to buy more. On the other hand, many frozen dinners are loaded with sodium and potentially toxic chemicals – skip those!
Last night I went to an Oscars party, but it was really a No-scar party since we couldn't get it to stream. Instead, we ate, socialized, and generally had a great time, I think there's something to adding a "No" or a "Not" to some things.
Today is another day where I just want to add the word “not”. How about making today “Not Cold Cuts Day.” On not cold cuts day, how about, instead, eating whole, healthy foods. For lunch, how about fresh vegetables, hummus, and fruit instead of a turkey or ham sandwich. Or, even better, how about cooking a delicious healthy stew for dinner and bringing the leftovers for lunch? Please consider not packing the lunch in plastic, use glass containers. Maybe make something that is as good cold as it is hot and then you won’t have to use that gnarly work microwave.
“I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like them Sam I am”, but I do like green smoothies. A green smoothie in the morning is a great way to set yourself up for success for the entire day. You will start off strong with green vegetables and fruits, experience a sustainable energy surge, and feel good about yourself. My favorite smoothies are a combination of a couple of handfuls of spinach, some banana and some frozen mango mixed up in my twenty year old blender. Sometimes I add a little bit of almond milk to get it the right consistency. Yum! So make yourself a smoothie and immerse yourself in some Dr. Seuss.
You look very nice today, and thank you for being such a great friend and wow, you are so wise. Aren’t compliments fabulous? Today is world compliment day, take advantage of it to compliment the people in your life and some total strangers that you see. Not only will they feel good about it, but increasingly there is science that says that by being kind to others, you will be happier and feel better. How cool is that? A two-fer!
A little about me and why I am doing this.
